Service Projects

District Service Grant – The Rotary Clubs of Smithfield and Suffolk together were awarded a District 7600 Rotary Foundation grant of $10,000 to construct a small planning and educational “book barn” for the Gwaltney Frontier Farm Education Foundation at Mill Swamp Indian Horse Farm. The 12×24 structure will be custom built by Rotary members to include a concrete slab, insulation, solar panels for lights, temperature control and general power. The “book barn” will house one of the largest collection of materials in the country and planning space to assist youth and adults served through the use of horses

Cuts For Kids – Sponsored by Fuzion Salon, in partnership with Parlor 39, provided haircuts for students to start off the school year

Evergreen Cemetery Maintenance – Provide ongoing cutting of grass, trimming and removal of debris

Scouts of Isle of Wight County – Sponsor the Scout Troop to include Boy/Girls Scouts

Roadside Clean-up – Twice a year highway trash pickup from downtown Rt 10 and Main Street intersection to Rt. 10 and Church Street intersection in partnership with the HAMS Club and VFW Post 8545

Citizen of The Year – In collaboration with the Smithfield Ruritan Club this event receives nominations and selects an individual to be recognized for their outstanding contribution and impact to the Isle of Wight Community.

Suicide Prevention Foundation “Suffolk Out of Darkness Walk” – Rotary was a sponsor, fundraiser, and members participated in the event

Mental Health and Resilience Event – Open to the general community, this event brings together community mental health providers and organizations and citizens in need of support and assistance.
